It is not known to many people that genital warts are caused by a virus. The virus that causes genital warts is the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus). It is found that there are around 100 types of virus that can cause warts in a human.

The timing at which the warts show up may differ. It is not that you will get warts sooner you have unprotected sex. In some cases the warts may show up even after years after having unprotected sex.

Recent developments have provided some relief. You can prevent genital warts by using a vaccine that is approved by the Food and Drug Administration of the United States of America.

The genital warts can cause more trouble to women so this vaccine is being given to girls between the ages of 11 and 12 by many people. This helps to prevent any growth abnormalities in the cervix due to genital warts which might even lead to cervical cancer.

Follow safe sexual practices to ensure that you are at minimal risk of getting genital warts. Be clean and healthy. If you find that your sexual partner has genital warts do ask them to get it treated before you start your activity again.
